Both of these vases were drawn after a painting from one of
the painters of the "Haagse School" (= the Hague School). The
paintings they produced all have very earthy colours, and therefore very
suitable to be reproduced on pottery like Gouda. Different rural decors can be found on these vases.
Names like Anton Mauve, Willem Maris and Willem Roelofs are
amongst those found on the vases.
The vase on the left has a reference to the original oil painting produced by Mr
Gabriël.
The vase on the right was painted after a painting by Mauve. The painting
is called "Schapen met herderin in bos" which translates
into "Sheep with shepherdess in the woods"
