Decor: paijsage Year: around 1905. High:
8.5cm. Wide: 11cm Painted
by: CD = Charlotte Jacoba Delchambre.
The picture just above is a snippet of the original oil painting from
Willem Roelofs that was used as an example when this vase was painted. No
reference of this, was made on the vase. (Also the cow on the
far left of the oil painting was never painted, but other vases exist with
all three cows present.)
This smallish vase is quite interesting. It is made out of a thin layer of
clay, it looks and feels like porcelain as opposed to earthenware,
it is the odd one out, like an experiment. It has a labour intensive bit
of painting on it, a full paysage decor with cows, water and the
traditional wind mills. It was painted around 1905, the painters initials
of CD would correspond with Charlotte Jacoba Delchambre, who
worked there at the time. It must have been one of the first pieces made
specifically for tourists or potentially export. The mark underneath does
not yet have the writing "made in Holland" but It has the words "Souvenir"
and "Holland" written on the top rim. When I bought this vase it came from
Switzerland. Possibly one of the first Gouda souvenirs produced.
