My parents would have used the small pot on the left to put in a cactus.
But really, it can be used as a small container as well. The one on the
right would be for a potted plant. Both would have been given a clay
insert to protect the pot itself. These pots were often displayed on
the window sills of a house, thus forming a clourful display towards the
outside of the house.
