Decor: Nationaal Year: Around 1915. High:
33cm. Wide: 18cm Painted
by: Unknown.
The word "Scheveningen" stands for a coastal town in the Netherlands
is actually painted on the vase.
The vase is also heavier than usual. This is because the clay in the
pottery, where the women and child are painted, is built up to bring the
design out a bit more.
I have grouped this vase in the "Paijsage"-category because of the
definition I used before; i.e.the design is free of the fictitious
patterns so common on most other Gouda pottery.
The painters signature of "VV" is normally attributed to Johannes
Gerardus van Vliet. But in 1915 he was only an 11 year old
boy. The characters "VV" might not be painters initials, If
you browse my collection you will find more of those signatures where the
same initial is used twice around that time.
