Paysage Zeeland and Landscape:
The marks on these vases are hard to display because of the dark green
surface underneath, for that reason the photo's are missing. Starting from
the early 1900's a lot of Gouda pottery was made to be exported to other
countries. The English word(s) "Made" or "Made in" Holland or
Zuid-Holland are often found on these vases so people knew where they came
from.
These scenery vases mostly had dark green bands above and below, but
different colours do exist varying from light green to shades of brown to
nearly black.
It is a bit harder to date these early pieces exactly because they do not
have a precise date mark. In this case the painter signature is also
helpful, Pieter Woerlee worked in the town of Gouda several times between
1904 to 1910. Also Leen Muller was there in the early days.
He and others painted a number of variations of this decor with farm
buildings, sailing boats and wind-mills. The decor on the left with the
word Zeeland (One of the provinces in the Netherlands) is not found very
often. The one with landscape scenery on the right is the more standard
one.
