High Glazed Pottery

The photo above shows  2 high glazed designs from 1923 (on the left) and 1919(on the right).

High glazed items created by the Gouda Zuid Holland PZH factory  typically represent the oldest ones made by them.

Many of them seem to be painted against a darker background, like the one on the bottom left.

The ones on a white or lighter background often have a much more detailed design.

With the invention of the matte glazed pottery the high glazed ones gradually started to disappear. They were phased out around 1918, and I believe they largely disappeared  around 1923.

When décor names were introduced around 1918 they simply gave the already existing range of pottery like the one on the bottom left,  the décor name of “Gouda”.

The high glazed ones with a white background used to be known as P (Porcelain) or NP (New Porcelain). The vase below on the right, was made in 1919 and with the introduction of  décor names, this one was naturally called  NP.
